AI is Already Guiding Careers: Almost Half of Gen Z Uses it to Make Career Decisions

    • Millions of youths are asking AI for help when writing a CV or preparing for an interview

Until recently, choosing a job, preparing for an interview, or deciding on a career change involved talking to a mentor, professor, or supervisor.

Today that conversation happens in front of a screen. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is occupying a space that once belonged almost exclusively to human beings: guiding decisions about one’s professional future.

A reported 47% of Gen Zers prefer to consult AI tools for career guidance, while 72% use it to seek career advice and 79% use it to identify learning and development opportunities.

Haydeé Jaime, a Content Strategy Manager for Pandapé, says:

“AI no longer functions just as a productivity tool; it is beginning to establish itself as a tool for building professional careers. Experience and know-how continue to be a key role in hiring decisions, but companies also need to understand how prepared a candidate is to learn and adapt. In a market where skills change rapidly, identifying potential allows us to look beyond the immediate needs of a vacancy.”

Career guidance has entered a new stage:

Immediate access to AI models is changing the way many people explore job opportunities. From optimizing a resume to preparing for interviews or comparing job openings, these inquiries can take a matter of seconds.

This change also responds to new expectations.

Gen Z seeks quick answers, continuous learning and guidance available any time, anywhere; technology covers part of that need, although there are still aspects where human experience plays a decisive role, such as complex decision-making, leadership development, and building long-term professional projects.

The New Challenge for Human Resources

Incorporating AI into career decisions also changes relationships between organizations and talent.

If people can receive guidance outside the company, HR needs to strengthen development, mentoring and feedback spaces to hold relevant conversations about professional growth. This trend reflects an environment where skills evolve rapidly.

The World Economic Forum estimates that 39% of job skills will change before 2030, with continuous learning being a priority for new generations. In this context, development is no longer just about filling vacancies but about building sustainable career paths.

    Technology to better understand potential

AI also transforms the way organizations identify talent.

Technology also transforms the way talent is identified. Today, competency assessments, psychometrics and other data-based methodologies allow employers to expand information on skills, behavior and development potential, dimensions that complement experience and academic training when making hiring decisions.

“AI can answer a question in seconds, but building a career is still a human process. Organizations that manage to combine technology, objective evaluation and support will be better able to develop talent ready for a consistently evolving market,” concludes Haydeé Jaime.
