There is some great news for travelers around the world. Peru is the third South American country to obtain the prestigious Safe Travels Stamp, awarded by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), meaning you can now start planning your next trip through the land of the Incas.

Not only is Peru one of the most megadiverse countries in the world, but thanks to this distinction, it is now also certified as a destination which meets all of the international hygiene and biosafety standards.

So, once international travel resumes, you know where to set your sights: the heart of South America.

    Flying high

The WTTC award was received by the President of the Council of Ministers, Walter Martos, and the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rocío Barrios, at a ceremony held on October 13 in the citadel of Machu Picchu (Cusco).

The award was presented over a long-distance call, in which the president and CEO of the WTTC, Gloria Guevara Manzo, also participated.

After the presentation of the recognition, Minister Barrios highlighted the importance of this stamp, which shows that the Peruvian Government is fully committed to the tourism sector and the importance of its reactivation.

“Tourism is the economic activity that has been worst hit by the coronavirus pandemic. So to reactivate it we want to offer visitors the best possible travel experience, with quality tourist destinations and services and complying with strict biosecurity protocols. We have the commitment of the public and private sectors. We’re getting ready to start again, it’s time,” said the minister.
