How one company is turning orange peels into fabric

Allow us to introduce you to Orange Fiber, a company that takes citrus juice waste and transforms it into yarn and fabric for brands and designers committed to sustainability.

Orange Fiber is an Italian company that has revolutionized the fashion and luxury industry with by-products of the orange juice industry. The company uses the peels and excess pulp  – which represent 60% of the orange juice industry’s waste – and transforms it into cellulose and subsequently into thread, promoting the circular economy and reducing the environmental impact of industrial waste.

In 2024, Orange Fiber trademarked the process of converting this waste into a spun material. Brands that are using this thread (for exclusive items) include Salvatore Ferragamo and H&M. Orange Fiber’s proposal is an ecological alternative to traditional textiles containing plastic, impacting fashion by transforming “garbage” into luxury.
