It’s pretty safe to say that at any given time we always have an electronic product at home, such as a comb or razor, that is broken.

Instead of tossing it out, Philips wants you to fix it. The brand’s Fixables campaign promotes self-repair of small electronics and seeks to reduce the number of devices that end up in the trash due to minor damage.

The brand launched an open access platform that offers downloadable 3D files. These files allow users to print the small parts that often wear or deteriorate on these devices at home or through certified partners, thereby facilitating quick and accessible repairs without the need to replace the entire product.

This sustainability and circular economy initiative combats electronic waste and the “use and throw away” culture, seeking to extend the life of devices, in conjunction with Prusa Research, manufacturers of 3 printers. The initiative responds to a global conversation around more conscious consumption.

The campaign promotes the use of spare parts, but beyond a functional solution, Philips proposes to recover the idea of repairing before discarding, bringing sustainability to everyday actions within the home.
