Walking may be entering the age of artificial intelligence.
Technological startup Shift Robotics is presenting “Moonwalkers,” motorized robotic shoes capable of increasing walking speeds by up to 250%, quickly becoming one of the most viral innovations in the tech world and urban mobility.
Shift Robotics is an engineering and robotics company founded in Austin, Texas by Xunjie Zhang, a robotics engineer who previously worked on control systems for Rolls-Royce Aerospace.
The idea was born from a simple but powerful question: what if humans could walk faster?
So came the Moonwalkers, motorized devices that are placed on normal shoes. Each unit incorporates electric motors, motorized wheels, intelligent sensors and an artificial intelligence system called ShiftOS.
The software analyzes the user’s gait approximately 100 times per second to automatically adapt the acceleration and momentum of each step in real time.
According to the company, users can reach speeds of up to 11 km/h without running. Some companies have already reported productivity increases of up to double in workers who walk long distances daily.
With this innovation, Shift Robotics is quickly becoming one of the most talked about startups in the futuristic mobility universe. And regardless of whether this technology manages to become massive or not, the company has already achieved something important: rethinking an action as everyday as walking.
