London, 10th June 2021: Mindshare, the media network that is part of WPP, has partnered with UNICEF Globally to launch a campaign targeting the G7 Leaders as they meet in Cornwall this week to ask them to donate 20% of their available vaccines to help developing countries.
The open letter, which has been running in the WSJ, the Times and other powerful international media brands across this week in the build up to the G7 summit, asks the G7 leaders to donate up to 150m doses which UNICEF states would not cause significant delay to the vaccination programmes of the G7 populations but would help in the fight to defeat the virus everywhere. Through these impactful media placements UNICEF are reaching key decision makers across politics, business and broader opinion leaders.
The letter goes on to say that ‘the Pandemic will not be over anywhere until it is over everywhere’ and ends with the message: ‘The hopes of the world rest on your shoulders. Together, you must rise to this challenge. Let’s build a healthier, brighter and fairer future for every child and for everyone.’
The open letter is signed by 32 UNICEF Good Will Ambassadors (GWAs) and supporters including: David Beckham, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Olivia Colman, Orlando Bloom, Whoopi Goldberg, Lucy Liu, Fernando Alonso, Sergio Ramos and Ewan McGregor amongst others and includes the hashtag call to action #DonateDosesNow. Thanks to the high visibility generated within Global/National print titles, UNICEF are creating a movement of support and helping fuel a growing conversation led by an increasing number of GWAs and digital influencers well beyond just the G7 countries.
Mindshare is working with UNICEF Globally on the project as part of an on-going UNICEF engagement covering COVAX, World Children’s Day, Pandemic Classroom, World Immunisation Week and various other initiatives, with a remit to leverage its global strategic/media owner relationships to help deliver key messages.
UNICEF QUOTE:
‘Through the partnership with Mindshare we have been able to maximise the coverage surrounding our Good Will Ambassador’s Open Letter to the G7 leaders at this critical time, something that would simply not have been possible without the support of media owner and agency partners’.
