Dentsu Creative is proudly partnering with the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) to tackle energy poverty and the climate crisis. With 3.6 billion people – nearly half the world – living in energy poverty today, GEAPP’s mission is to accelerate a green energy tipping point that powers progress for people and planet.
Since its launch at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021, GEAPP has catalysed a movement to drive the transition to renewable energy in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean, averting 147 metric tons CO2e, connecting 1.3m people and businesses to new and improved energy systems and creating over 600,000 new jobs and livelihoods (directly and indirectly). GEAPP works in partnership with global institutions and dozens of partners united by a common belief that green energy access in the world’s emerging markets is fundamental to tackle the climate crisis and end inequality. Dentsu will join the GEAPP Alliance, already 50 partners strong, using its global creative expertise and leveraging the dentsu network to tell the stories of renewable energy solutions and galvanize support for this mission worldwide.
“GEAPP is on a mission to accelerate inclusive green, clean energy transitions, to create transformational opportunities for change for both people and the planet” says GEAPP Chief Communications Officer, Kate Wills “Significant resources are required to achieve our global climate goals and to ensure the energy transition is just. No one country and no one organization can achieve this alone. This is why we are committed to forming an ever widening and diverse alliance of individuals, institutions, and communities with complementary sources of capital, delivery capacity, deep expertise, and reach. We are delighted that Dentsu Creative are bringing their power to the mission. Their track record of driving change through creative communications is well recognized, while their global footprint and network is unparalleled to deliver impact around the world”.
Dentsu Creative has been tasked to deliver a global integrated brand strategy and campaigns, building on the award winning “Let’s Change Energy For Good” campaign launched by GEAPP, the Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Bezos Earth Fund and Alliance partners at COP26. Led out of Africa by SSA Chief Creative Officer, Nkanyezi Masango, and CEO, Michael Zylstra, a global team has been assembled, including Dentsu Creative UK Managing Partner, Rachael Ford, and dentsu’s Head of Global Campaigns and Stakeholder Engagement for Social Impact, Jordan Hunter Powell. The team will collaborate with the wider dentsu network to facilitate strategic media and partnership opportunities – working in close collaboration with the GEAPP Global communications teams led by Communications Managing Director, Eric Gay, Communications and Campaigns Manager, Kasia Krol, Africa Director Annette Mutuku and Asia Director Vaishali Mishra as well as a wide team of Alliance communications partners.
Central to dentsu’s appointment was its commitment to sustainability and societal progress, and its core vision to deliver people-centred transformations that shape society. dentsu is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its global value chain by 2040 and was one of the first companies in the world to have this net zero target validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its international operations*. As a long-standing member of RE100 they have committed to achieving 100% renewable electricity in all markets by 2030.
“The need to transition towards a greener, more sustainable world has never been greater, and in doing so all global climate efforts must be a pathway for progress for the 3.6 billion around the world living without access to reliable, affordable, sustainable energy” says Dentsu Creative SSA CEO Michael Zylstra “Dentsu Creative is committed to driving societal change through the transformative power of creativity, and we could not be more motivated to embark on this brief and partnership”.
*In 2022, this commitment was extended to include Japan and dentsu is in process of setting new groupwide net zero climate targets for SBTi approval.
