Netflix Launches Netflix Fund For Creative Equity in Taiwan

Today, Netflix announced the launch of the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity in Taiwan — a dedicated effort to help identify, train and provide more opportunities for the next generation of creative talent from underrepresented communities around the world. In partnership with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), we will host a six-week series writing workshop for emerging filmmakers in Taiwan.

Maya Huang, Head of Chinese Language Content at Netflix, shares: “Chinese-language content has been flourishing in recent years, and Netflix is committed to exploring the opportunities within this industry. As part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with TAICCA, we held a Content Partners Workshop last year. This year, we are thrilled to continue this partnership under the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity. With this initiative, we hope to create a platform for aspiring creators in Taiwan to exchange ideas and best practices, and provide learning opportunities to cultivate and elevate creative and varied storytelling.”

Homme Tsai, Chairman of TAICCA, also shared that through this partnership with Netflix, TAICCA hopes to strengthen its understanding of the global industry and enhance the commercial viability of Taiwanese content on the international stage. TAICCA aims to continue to cultivate talent in the local creative community and create more opportunities for the global audience to enjoy quality Taiwanese content.

The NETFLIX X TAICCA Series Writing: Writers’ Room Workshop, jointly organized by Netflix and TAICCA, will be held from September 21 to October 26. Led by renowned screenwriter Hsu Jui-liang (The Victims’ Game, Taiwan Crime Stories: Dark Currents), together with Maya Huang (Little Big Women, End of Summer) and Netflix Director of Grow Creative, Chris Mack (Special, It’s Bruno!) as guest speakers, participants will get a chance to glean insights into their extensive experience in series scriptwriting and production.

Aimed at cultivating mentorship for the next generation of writers, the six-week masterclass course will host over 40 screenwriters, producers and emerging filmmakers in sessions covering the basics of series screenwriting, characterization and giving notes. Participants will also receive practical training through a writers’ workshop and pitching exercises.
