    Anthropic, Claude and Responsible AI

For the past few years, the conversation around AI has been dominated by men like Adam Altman, CEO of Open IA; Demis Hassabis, founder of Google DeepMind; and Yann LeCun, chief AI scientist at Meta. However, another actor has emerged that is gaining more and more relevance among companies, developers and researchers: Claude, the artificial intelligence model created by Anthropic.

But how is it different from the rest of the AIs?

The company has opted for slightly different ideas in developing its technology: putting security, alignment and responsible behavior at the center of the conversation.

    For example:

    • Constitutional AI: Anthropic trains Claude with a “constitution” of written ethical principles to automatically evaluate and correct its behavior.
    • Security by design: Technology trained to block the generation of content that is harmful, illegal, or hateful as well as disinformation before it reaches the user.
    • Hallucination Reduction: Claude prioritizes honesty, admitting that it “doesn’t know something” rather than inventing false data.
    • Risk audit: Company subjects its models to extreme tests carried out by external experts to detect vulnerabilities in cybersecurity or biosecurity.
    • Corporate transparency: Publishes its security research openly so that the tech industry can replicate its ethical standards.

Behind this vision is Daniela Amodei, one of the figures who has helped build one of the most influential companies in the AI sector. As co-founder and president of Anthropic, she has helped to consolidate an organization that seeks to demonstrate that technological innovation does not necessarily have to advance without responsibility.

While much of the industry competes to create more powerful technology models and more advanced artificial intelligence, Anthopic tries to answer different issues and take a more responsible approach. How to develop an AI that is useful, without losing sight of its risks?

It is evident that we are in the fourth industrial revolution, where a rush for technological innovation is moving faster than the speed of regulation. A desperation to advance, motivated by:

    • Economic competition: companies fearful of becoming obsolete if they do not integrate the most advanced AI before their rivals do.
    • Geopolitics: countries competing for technological leadership for reasons related to national security and economic power.
    • Public expectations: users demanding increasingly fast, personalized and efficient solutions.

This pressure to move quickly is no accident. Unlike past technologies, artificial intelligence is no longer in an experimental stage or reserved for research laboratories. Today, it is part of the daily lives of millions of people and organizations around the world. From education and research to programming, customer service and content creation, AI has been integrated into activities that directly impact the way people work, learn and make decisions.

That is why the debate should no longer focus solely on which model is more powerful or what new capabilities it can develop. The discussion raises a more complex question: How reliable is Artificial Intelligence if it is to become part of people’s daily lives?
