NBA has announced Tennis Australia’s Action Audio as one of seven technology companies to join the second cohort of NBA Launchpad, the basketball league’s initiative to source, evaluate and pilot emerging technologies that advance the NBA’s top priorities.
Action Audio, developed in partnership with Tennis Australia and Monash University, is a world-first for augmenting live sports with sound. Designed to give people who are blind and visually impaired the ability to follow games in real-time, it turns spatial data from a ball monitoring computer vision system into 3D sound design experiences.
The 2023 cohort includes: Action Audio, EDGE Sound Research, nVenue, SkillCorner, Springbok Analytics, Supersapiens and Tagboard.
Action Audio, alongside the other companies selected, will participate in research and development before presenting findings in July.
